JOIN OMB
1. Fill out an Interest Card
This gives us your initial contact information and your instrument so we can keep you updated on registration, events, and opportunities to perform with us! (You can fill out an interest card at any age!)
2. Download the 2024 Fall Schedule
3. Prepare your Wind Audition or Attend the Percussion/Color Guard Audition Workshop
All new members need to complete an audition. Returning members in the percussion and color guard sections must also complete an audition. Returning members in the wind section do not need to complete an audition unless they plan to move to a new section. These auditions begin in spring with videos submitted through the OMB application for winds and an in-person workshop for percussion and color guard. The specific dates are announced in winter – you will be notified via the interest card mailing list, but also keep an eye on our social media pages for announcements.
4. Submit an OMB Application (NOW OPEN – Deadline is June 3, 2024!)
Fill out an online form with the OMB in the spring prior to your intended year. It will let us know all the details like your instrument, contact information, uniform size, and medical information. All new members need to submit an audition through this application.
5. Enroll in the Class
The Oregon Marching Band is a 2-credit class called MUS 395: Top Marching Band MW 3:20-6:00pm Th 7-9:30pm. Enroll in the class when you register for your regular classes to avoid class conflicts! Be clear with your academic advisor and with any programs like ARCs or FIGs that you want to be in marching band and understand any potential time conflicts. There are several registration options for MUS 395, including some that “package” marching bands with other ensembles for a lower tuition rate.
See the Athletic Band Classes handout for more information. If you are a student at Lane Community College, please see the instructions in our LCC Registration Policy. If you are not actively seeking a degree at the University of Oregon or Lane Community College, you can participate through Non-degree-seeking registration.
6. Apply for Early Arrival with Housing
Band camp is typically two weeks before school starts. If you are living in the residence halls, you need to apply for early arrival through housing. This allows you to move before Band Camp begins. To apply, the form called “Change in Arrival” is available late August through the Housing website. Housing then verifies the student’s confirmed enrollment in OMB. See the OMB Fall Schedule for the specific move-in date. Housing costs are pro-rated and are the responsibility of the student. Meal plans begin at the time of arrival. If moving into the dorms early is financially prohibitive, indicate your request for a homestay in the OMB Application to stay with a returning member until you are able to move into your dorm.
7. Download the detailed Band Camp Schedule
This schedule becomes available through our communications app in August to people who have completed the application form and have been admitted to the OMB.
8. Download the OMB What To Bring List
9. Show Up to Band Camp and the OMB Welcome Meeting!
The OMB will meet for the first time as a group at the beginning of camp after instrument and uniform distributions. See the Band Camp Schedule for all the details.
10. Attend Band Camp
Band camp runs the two weeks before classes begin. A detailed schedule becomes available in August.
